The Carson King Foundation, partnering with “Iowa love” T-Shirts, is launching its first statewide fundraiser in an effort to support nonprofits that serve the families and children across the state whose mental health has been affected by the effects of the COVID-19 mitigation efforts and the closing of schools for the remainder of the school year.

“I would like parents to know that if they or their children are experiencing abnormal mental behavior during these especially challenging times, there are resources available to help by phone or online. We are hoping to do our part to bring awareness to and help fund these invaluable programs especially now that schools in Iowa will not be reopening this school year,” shares Carson King.

You may recall King as the security guard turned philanthropist who captured the country's attention last fall. Standing in the background of a nationally televised sporting event pregame show, King held up a funny sign encouraging the audience to send beer money to his Venmo account. Once a few hundred dollars poured in, King decided that all money sent over the following weeks would be donated to University of Iowa's Stead Children's Hospital. With companies Venmo and Anheuser-Busch offering to match donations, tens of thousands of people across the country sent money. Ultimately, King was able to donate a staggering $3 million to UICH.

William Heathershaw, creator of “Iowa love”, said, “I followed Carson’s story unfold daily, I couldn’t stop thinking that Carson especially personified “Iowa love”. And lo and behold, a photo was snapped of Carson posing with legendary Hawkeye and Super Bowl Champion Dallas Clark - with Dallas wearing an “Iowa love” shirt! I took that as a sign to reach out to Carson and here we are today.”

Though it’s highly unexpected that this second ‘sign’ will raise as much money, “Iowa love” will be introducing its Limited Edition: Carson King Foundation “Iowa love” T-Shirt on its website (iowalove.org) on Monday, April 20 with proceeds being donated to King’s recently established foundation.

The “Iowa love” T-Shirt features on the chest the novel “Iowa love” Symbol - a cursive design simultaneously spelling the words “Iowa” and “love”, which can be described as an optical illusion of sorts. The top back of the T-Shirt features the Carson King Foundation logo. And each sleeve will have a logo - one for the screen printing partner, Cedar Falls-based Shirt Shack and the other sleeve with the logo of media partner "Iowa Chill."

“We decided that the color of the T-Shirt should be a heathered black and cardinal material to symbolize Carson bridging the communities of folks that exclusively wear Black & Gold with those that wear Cardinal & Gold,” explains Heathershaw.

In February 2020, Carson decided to put his good name and passion to work and founded the Carson King Foundation with the mission to help children and families in time of need and uniting communities to make a difference.

While Iowans have dramatically adjusted their lives over the last few weeks, the interruptions and social distancing have become especially harmful for those who experience mental illness. As such, the Carson King Foundation is identifying programs across the state that are serving the families most impacted and will donate 100% of their proceeds from this fundraiser to those selected organizations.

The Limited Edition: Carson King Foundation “Iowa love” T-Shirt is available online at www.iowalove.org/carson-king through Friday, May 8.
